This emergency paediatric first aid course has been designed to meet statutory framework requirements for paediatric first aid for early years foundation stage.

Description

During this one day course, learners will develop an understanding of emergency paediatric first aid procedures and develop the skills necessary to handle a range of situations, such as dealing with an unresponsive child,performing CPR and controlling external bleeding. Upon successful completion, certification is valid for 3 years.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
  • Be able to differentiate between an infant and a child for the purposes of first aid treatment
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is:
    - unresponsive
    - suffering from shock
    - experiencing a seizure
    - choking
  • Identify when to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and be able to demonstrate CPR using an infant manikin and a child manikin
  • Be able to identify and manage life-threatening bleeding
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child with bites, stings or minor injuries.
